Accelerated Technology Welcomes Simulation and Testing Technology from Innoveda
TOKYO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 26, 2002-- Accelerated Technology,
the Embedded Systems Division of Mentor Graphics (Nasdaq: MENT - News), today
announced that the Innoveda Finland team responsible for E-SIM
technology will be incorporated into Mentor's Embedded Systems
Division.
The E-SIM product, when integrated with the Accelerated
Technology® Nucleus® MNT prototyping tool, will result in the
premier embedded prototyping environment. Nucleus MNT already allows
embedded developers using the Nucleus operating system to prototype
their embedded devices from the application down to the hardware
layer. The embedded processor is replaced with a software simulation
module. E-SIM will expand the capabilities of Nucleus MNT to provide
for better prototyping of I/O peripherals and the man-machine
interface as well as provide built-in support for regression testing.
A demonstration of E-SIM will be provided by Accelerated
Technology at the Embedded Systems Expo & Conference in Tokyo, Japan.
Please visit booth #19-24 to observe this technology first hand.
E-SIM is an execution platform (host-based) for embedded software
development and testing. By enabling early access to native interface
models, E-SIM makes it possible to begin software development before
any target hardware prototypes are available. Software developers can
easily observe and visualize the application's I/O operations and can
even stimulate the application and drive its functionality on the fly.
E-SIM provides high-level environment modeling and tracing
capabilities (virtual I/O ports, event and real-time OS tracings,
etc.) for complex embedded software and networked systems (e.g.
Bluetooth, CAN, WLAN, etc.).
Another benefit of E-SIM is its powerful regression testing
features. E-SIM provides record/replay features, input stimulus files
and a command script language, which allow complete automatic tests to
be built. This makes it easy to perform regression testing of embedded
software to catch unwanted side effects of software changes during
both the development and maintenance phase.
With E-SIM, an array of host-based tools can be used to develop
and debug an embedded application. These include Visual C/C++ IDE and
debugger, code coverage tools as well as a wide variety of
complementary tools from third party vendors (e.g. modelling,
designing, etc.). E-SIM is available for the following platforms:
Win32, Sun Solaris, HP-UX and Linux.
"The E-SIM team of Innoveda has been working diligently for the
last seven years to develop world class simulation capabilities.
Developers can build an on screen mock-up of their device and interact
with it through keyboard and mouse clicks in addition to scripted
inputs and outputs to exercise the underlying code that supports the
device. This is truly a one-of-a-kind technology that will continue to
keep Accelerated Technology at the leading edge of embedded systems
prototyping," said Neil Henderson, general manager of Accelerated
Technology, the Embedded Systems Division of Mentor Graphics.
"We are excited about this technology alliance and know that our
customers will benefit from the extensive technology that Accelerated
Technology has," states Timo Ronka, founder of Innoveda Finland. "We
are providing higher abstract level services that will support AT's
customers to leverage the scalability, reliability and maintainability
of embedded software development. We see Accelerated Technology's
tools as a key part of enhancing E-SIM's opportunities in the embedded
world."
Pricing and Availability
E-SIM is available now through Accelerated Technology, ESD of
Mentor Graphics. Licenses for E-SIM start at U.S. $12,500.
